Ethnic Textile Innovation Presentation at Second Global Meeting of The Indigenous Peoples’ Forum At IFAD
We showcased a completely indigenous collection at the Second Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples Forum at IFAD Headquarters, Rome on 13th February 2015. Amongst a roaring response, the employees of IFAD walked the ramp for fashion designer Daniel Syiem. It was an unforgettable moment especially as IFAD hosted its first ever fashion show but also that we had regular people of different age groups, sizes and nationalities walking the ramp, a truly special moment of cultural and indigenous unity. This platform gave us an opportunity to showcase the art and craft of our culture while also promoting our indigenous fabrics.

DSEFH’s efforts at working at understanding the hurdles faced by the artisans in sustaining their craft, actions to promote them give them a platform and enable them to conserve their stories and their art were observed by the North East Slow Food & Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), organization. They recommended Daniel Syiem strongly for his work with the indigenous fabrics of the Meghalaya to participate in the Salon de Gusto/ Terra Madre, the world’s largest food and wine fair and a once in two years world meeting of all the indigenous communities of the world. He participated in the same along with the NESFAS contingent.
